SA Championships Weekend

We left Melbourne at 4pm Friday, and just after dusk, ran into a kangaroo on the road between Ararat and Great Western. Broke the headlamp and left a large dent in the bonnet and bumper bar. Everyone was ok, except for the kangaroo. We drove the rest of the way with only one headlight, but arrived safely at 12:15am.

We visited great grandma Arthur who turns 95 in December at the nursing home. In the evening, Bruce and Clive saw the crows beat Collingwood by 4 points. It wasn't much of a game, but it was a close contest, and the right team won!

Sunday's orienteering was the South Australian Long Distance Championships. A new map called Ngaralta Country provided open rocky paddocks, together with patches of tricky Mallee scrub with thick undergrowth and low visibility. It was quite a challenge to find many of the controls hidden right next to small boulders. Bruce ran a good race and won men's elite for a fifth time, following wins in 1996 at The Fountain, 1999 at Narinyerri Hills, 2004 at Twigham and 2005 at Coffin Bay. Clive came third in M55A and Marian won W55AS.
