Melbourne 2006

Melbourne was certainly the place to be in March 2006.

After watching opening ceremony fireworks from our windows upstairs, we then settled down to 10 days of competition. Bruce's parents joined us for the weekend, and we watched the triathalon compeition at St Kilda and saw 2 aussie gold medals.

Bruce took his dad to the track cycling veledrome at the muli-purpose venue to see Ryan Bailey win the men's sprint competition.

On Sunday morning, we saw the women's and men's marathon compeition wind its way through the streets of Carlton on the way to the MCG finish.

Clive and Marian saw the aussie 20km walk wins at the Dockland's on Monday morning before heading home.
Bruce headed to the MCG for Monday night's athletics finals, to see Craig Mottram come second in the 5000m in an incredible race with the Kenyan's. The 100m world record holder, Asafa Powell form Jamaica won the sprint.
Mason and Torren made their first ever trip (along with 83000 others) to the MCG on Thursday night to see Jana Pittman win the 400m hurdles, and John Steffansen receive his gold medal for the 400m.

Bruce then took Mason and Torren to Susannah's apartment in South Yarra to watch the road cycling race from her balcony.

NSW National Orienteering League Trip

The whole family drove up to Cowra, NSW, for the first 3 rounds of the 2006 National Orienteering League. Bruce came 10th in the sprint in the morning and had a very good run to come 6th on Saturday afternoon in the middle distance.

We stayed overnight at Wyangala Dam cabins amongst the kangaroos. Sunday was another hot day for the long distance, with Bruce fading towards the end to finish 14th. Overall a good start to the season, with Bruce coming 7th in the National League standings.

On the way home, Mason watched The Heffalump Movie about five times on the new portable DVD player. Torren and Mason took the front seats to give mum and dad a rest.
